News of the latest routes, aircraft and figures from the ever-growing world of Wizz Air

NEW BASE
As announced earlier, Wizz Air will open its eighth operating base in Cluj-Napoca with one new A320 aircraft in May 2008. It will become the airline's second Romanian base after Bucharest. The aircraft will be deployed to increase frequencies on existing routes as well as fly new routes such as Valencia and Milan Bergamo commencing on 15 May.

MORE FLIGHTS
Wizz Air has launched its first domestic service in Romania with four weekly flights between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. This is the only domestic flight operated by a low-cost company in Romania. In addition to this, the airline started three weekly flights from Bucharest to Brussels Charleroi, Milan Bergamo and from Cluj-Napoca to Dortmund. Wizz Air continues its expansion in Bulgaria too. The airline is launching a new route to Brussels South Charleroi Airport from 24 July 2008. With the new service, Wizz Air now offers a network of eight destinations from the Bulgarian capital. Wizz Air will also strengthen its position in Bulgaria by deploying an additional new Airbus A320 type aircraft, starting from 12 July 2008.

10 MILLION PASSENGERS
Wizz Air celebrated a landmark flight on 9 February by carrying its 10 millionth passenger less than four years after starting operations in 2004, and is projecting to carry its next 10 million passengers within 18 months from today.

NEW AIRCRAFT
Wizz Air has kept Airbus quite busy in the last couple of months as it has taken deliveries of 4 new Airbus A320 aircraft from end of January this year and another 2 are in the pipeline to be delivered by mid-summer. The new aircraft come with all the upgrades that Airbus recently made to this model including the new cabin design featuring more shoulder space, larger overhead stowage and measurable noise reduction in the cabin. The new A320 is also a more economic aircraft with increased fuel efficiency, a significant benefit both in terms of operational costs and environmental considerations.

MEET THE WIZZ AIR STAFF

KAROLINA MACHURA
Age:
32
Occupation: Head of Cabin Crew

How long have you been working for Wizz Air?
I have been working for Wizz Air since May 2004, when we started flying from Katowice. I started as a senior cabin attendant and, after few months, I became instructor and then base manager in our first base in Poland. In 2005 I became cabin crew manager responsible for our then three Polish bases (Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice). From September 2006 I have taken care of all crew as Head of Cabin Crew.

At present we are the biggest department in our company, with more then 400 crew, and we have eight operating bases around Europe.

Describe a typical day for you at work.
In the airline business anything can happen. It's full of surprises, but of course we try to keep a regular roster and meetings during our day. Every morning we start off with a review of the previous day's performance and evaluate it. We also check if the morning started off in order: if all the departures were on time, there were no delays, etc. During the day I usually have some meetings with my team or other Wizz Air departments.

I often travel to the bases to participate in recruitments and for team building days or trainings.

What is the best thing about working for Wizz Air?
From the very beginning I felt a special atmosphere in this company: it is a young and very dynamic team. I meet people who still surprise me with their enthusiasm, loyalty, commitment and ability to act fast and solve issues effectively. It gives the opportunity to develop yourself as a manager, build a career and also grow up as a human. Honestly I don't think I could have invested my time better during the last three years.

What is the strangest thing that's happened during a day's work? When our parking lot gets full, people park their cars in front of our building, leaving the handbrake off. This is so they can be moved easily in case they block the other cars. I'm just afraid that one day I'll find my car on the other side of the building!
