SNAPSHOT

I think the picturesque beauty of the Lower Rhine scenery is at its best during the summer months – and a visit to Weeze takes advantage of this.

FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

The bus to Weeze leaves from the front of the terminal building every hour, €2. A taxi into town costs €12.

FOOD

Café-Konditorei Nederkorn

Haupt Straße 5, Kevelaer www.cafe-nederkorn.de A short drive out of Weeze, this café is known for fresh cream cakes, sponges and a plethora of teas and coffees.

De Gelderse Poort

Rijndijk 6, CG Millingen aan de Rijn, +31 (0)481 43 4182 www.de-gelderse-poort.com A uniquely located restaurant on the banks of the Rhine, on the Dutch side of the border. The boating traffic means there’s always something to watch.

FRIENDS

Café de Fries

Kurfürsten Straße 8, Xanten, +49 (0) 2801 2068, www.cafe-defries.de/

A short drive to Xanten brings you to a well known café with an adjoining pastry museum and chocolate factory!

E-Dry Discothek

Venloer Straße 10, Geldern - Veert, +49 (0) 28 31 4145 www.e-dry.de The parties change almost nightly but by far the best club for disco divas and rave bunnies is E-Dry in nearby Veert.

INSIDER TIP

Visit the Castle Schwanenbur (Swan Castle) in nearby Cleves, once home of Anne of Cleves (1515-1557), briefly fourth wife of Henry VIII of England. The marriage wasn’t consummated, so maybe not best for a honeymoon.
