| 15-19 March Las fallas, Valencia More than 700 fallas – papier-mâché effigies up to 20m high, showing satirical caricatures of celebrities, politicians or the hottest issues of the year – are displayed in the streets and then set alight in dramatic bonfires to celebrate the coming of spring.
